What is mesh fabric?

Actually, mesh material fabric is not really a material. So what is mesh? Mesh refers to a specific way of weaving fabric. It is lightly woven with open spaces between the yarns. This gives the fabric a mesh-like look which is slightly see-through.

So what is mesh fabric made of? There are many different types of mesh fabric, but it is usually made out of polyester, nylon or spandex. These are synthetic materials that can last a very long time. But did you know that our rPET U-circular Mesh is made of recycled plastic bottles?  Besides synthetic materials, even metal can be woven into mesh fabric. This gives the fabric a shiny look. The possibilities are endless.

The uses of mesh fabric

Because of its open structure, mesh fabric has a lot of breathability. This makes it especially suitable for sportswear. Working with printed mesh fabric

Although mesh is a strong fabric, it is quite easy to cut and sew. We would like to give you a few tips on working with printed mesh fabric:

How to cut mesh fabric:

• Make sure to get yourself a sharp pair of scissors!
• Cut the mesh like any other fabric.

How to sew mesh fabric:

• Wash the fabric before processing to avoid creasing during sewing.
• Use the correct yarn: synthetic yarn for polyester- or nylon-based mesh and cotton yarn for other mesh fabrics.
• Use zigzag stitches instead of straight stitches.
