“The great peril of our existence lies in the fact that our diet consists entirely of souls”
IINUA capsule collection by textile designer Joelle Boers and fashion designer Bregje Cox is a reflection on the wisdom of the mountains and the resourcefulness of the Inuit people.
The Inuit believe very strongly in what we call animism: that all people, animals and even geographic features such as mountains and lakes possess a spiritual essence.
We have used the structures and textures of the stones and mountains and have translated them into bold prints. For the patterns we have looked at the functions that Inuit garments like the anorak have.
By combining these two we have created a collection that could be seen as a new kind of stone-camouflage.We live in a challenging time and modern civilization has improved our lives in great ways. It would be impossible to go back to the nature. We need to evolve to a better balance between our human nature and modern live.
Hopefully technology will be able to help us make this transition. We both studied and graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts & Design Maastricht (MAFAD)
Our work has similarities and during participating in side projects we started to see the potential of working together. We work well together because we complement eachother. Both of us are heavily influenced by the aesthetics of all things technological, natural phenomena and cultural identity.
