Printing on polyester

The entire fabric printing process happens in-house at House of U, allowing us to guarantee the highest quality of products, short delivery times, and the ability to print polyester by the yard.

Our polyester fabric printing process goes as follows: first, we use GOTS disperse inks to print on the fabric, after which we treat the fabric by finishing and washing it to ensure the longevity of the printed colors. Last – but definitely not least – the custom polyester fabric undergoes a thorough final quality check to ensure everything looks just the way you want it to.

Properties of polyester fabric

Polyester fabric’s texture and synthetic nature make it a very sturdy and virtually wrinkle-free kind of textile. As a result, polyester is a wear-resistant kind of material that doesn’t need to be ironed often.

• Water-repellent, but not very breathable

Recycled polyester: U-cirular fabrics

A large part of our polyester collection consists of U-circular fabrics. These fabrics have a recycled polyester base (also called 'Rpet') and are made from recycled PET beverage bottles. As a result, no new raw materials need to be used in production. This makes the U-circular fabric a sustainable alternative to regular polyester.

Popular uses of polyester

Polyester fabric is often used for interior design purposes, primarily because of its long-lasting nature – think, for example, about pillows, curtains or upholstery. Polyester’s UV resistance also makes it a very suitable fabric for any outdoor applications, as it will retain its color even if it’s laying in the sun.

The fashion industry is also fond of polyester; however, because the fabric isn’t very breathable and can quickly feel stuffy, it’s best to use it for looser garments like dresses, blouses, and skirts. Additionally, because polyester fabric is stretchy and water-repellent, it’s great for any outdoor garments: brands often use polyester fabric for swimwear and other sports’ clothing.

A guide to washing your custom polyester fabrics

Polyester is a fabric that can be washed at temperatures up to 30°C. Additionally, it should not be bleached or tumble dried. It’s possible to iron polyester, if necessary, but it’s recommended to do so at a lower temperature to not damage the fabric.
